Walking in the Woods

It was the first day in a while that the temperature got above freezing. The plan for today was for my friend Stephanie to pick me up to go to REI, then shoe shopping, lunch, pick up Amy and go for a fire tower hike.  I was to close out my day at Craft Night.  Things mostly went that way, here are some happy things:

  • At REI Stephanie was able to get the things she wanted.  I window shopped.  It turns out that even the salesperson couldn’t open up the bear canister that I was considering getting.  I learned some new things about towels, toothbrushes, and trowels.
  • We went to a shoe store next and I actually found a pair of shoes that I liked that were also on sale.
  • Amy wasn’t feeling well and didn’t join us for the hike.  Instead of a fire tower Stephanie and I got a tip from a friend about a place that had a waterfall.  We started in a park, went under two highways, and did a loop that went partially by a river with a waterfall.  It was very pretty.  I love the different ways that ice forms on rivers in the wintertime.

  • There is a friend in the Barony that I asked a while ago to try to write a song about and for the Barony.  Her son came by for a sleepover with Gideon and she sang the song for me while she was here.  I love it!  I’m hoping that people will learn it and sing it when going into court and around campfires.
  • It was a long day and I was tired, but I made it to craft night.  There were over ten people there, I didn’t count, but it was good to see it so busy.  I sorted through some of the beads Keziah recently received in search of some to use and make gifts for our big event in two weeks.  I have a pile that might be appropriate, but I was lacking the energy to make anything with them yet.  I found my jewelry making supplies and brought them home.  Maybe over the weekend I will become inspired.
  • I played with my new lights.
