SCA Day

May 31st Saturday -- in which I fell asleep before finishing writing.

The SCA event I am at this weekend is hosting, among other things, the kingdom archery champions. Thanks to Stephanie, I got to compete. The weather was back and forth between rain and maybe the sun would occasionally shine out between the clouds.  It made for some wet and some dry archery.

The competition had eight stations with a unique shoot at each one.  They were all challenging, and fun because of that, in their own way.

Some of the targets:

This was my best grouping of the day.  Three arrows close together, all scoring.

After that, scores were tallied and the top sixteen went on to the next level.  This is the point where people drop out, saying that they don't want to be one of the champions.  Because of this, I ended up in the top sixteen.  Stephanie also did, but she had a much higher score.  The highest scored people had scores in the 70's.  My score was 26, so it was quite a spread.

The next part was double elimination.  Two archers went head to head against a target that was sort of like a windmill or fan in shape and would move if the wind blew enough.  The objective was to shoot the ends of the blades off.  The first out of the pair would advance to the top eight.

Somehow, I was able to shoot all my ends off.  Not only that, I did it faster than my opponent.  I was shocked.

The next target was a repeat of one that we had used earlier in the competition.  I was not faster than my opponent that time.  Few, I was willing to serve as a champion, but honestly, I was not prepared.  It was so much fun trying!  Many thanks to Stephanie for taking pictures.

Court followed soon after where deserving people were recognized for their achievements.  It was a really nice day, despite getting rained on and ultimately being cold.

One other highlight of my day; a dear friend, who helped me many years ago learn a lot about archery, gave me a token.

It is an arrowhead someone made out of flint.

Thank you for being here and being part of my daily happy things. Stay safe!
