April 25th--100 Miles & Internet!!

April 25th Friday

We hiked 8.5 miles today.  We are damp and tired.  Bel is done.  We are in Franklin, NC at a hotel.  We finally have enough internet access to upload my pictures!  I only got three days of blogs ready and posted.  The rest will be for tomorrow.

Last night I slept a lot.  I went to bed a little after 7 PM and fell asleep soon after.  I woke occasionally, but fell back to sleep easily compared to other nights.

We hiked in and out of rain and fog today.  Occasionally the sun would tease us and try to come out.

The hardest part of the day was climbing Mount Albert.  The last quarter mile or so was stairs or rock.  They drilled (or used another tool?) steps into some of the stones to make it easier to climb.  It really did help.

At the top of Albert Mountain there is a fire tower!  After a rest, I climbed up the stairs.  Bel chose not to.  We were in a cloud, there wasn't much to see.  It was a fire tower though, so I had to go up.

We stopped for short breaks at both of the next shelters.  We ended our hiking day at Rock Gap and took the shuttle into town.  We picked up our mail packages.  I have new glasses!  We will go through the food later.  Saturday I am going to slackpack with another hiker and Bel will take a zero day.

A wet trillium.

I love the swirls in this rock.

This rock wall is covered in moss and bluets.  It is also a bunch of tiny waterfalls as water drips down from above.

A couple of the stairs heading up the mountain.

We found three of the geomarkers.

We reached the 100 mile mark!

More stairs!

The views from the top.

And looking down for Bel.

Mayapples (Lens)

We got off the trail at Rock Gap.

There are irises blooming in town.⬇️⬆️

We splurged on ice cream.
I've missed ice cream.

Thank you for being here and being part of my daily happy things. Stay safe!
