May 20th
It has been five days since I last visited Harpers Ferry. The water levels have receded and the tree that I thought had been washed away, wasn't. 😲 If you missed my blogs about the flooding, I believe they were the 14th and 15th of May. Here are some pictures taken today from similar places:

The tree behind that sign was missing last week. |
 |
That wall was under water before. That is most likely why that tree is still there.

 |
The bottom of those stairs were underwater. |
 |
It looks so calm! |
 |
The bridge collected a pile of wood and debris. |
 |
17 and 20 feet are where the water was last week. I can't tell where it is now. |

Workers are repairing where the trail got washed out. |
⬆️⬆️ That is as far as I was able to go last week because of the flooding. Today I hiked a portion of the Appalachian Trail between Harpers Ferry (those stairs) and the parking lot where I parked my car when I hiked Weverton Cliff a few days ago. That closes up a gap should I decide to continue section hiking in the future. Most of what I hiked today is also part of a
bike route between somewhere in Washington DC to Cumberland Maryland. That route is 184.5 miles. I was only on about three of those miles.

I think that is a bobbin stuck to that bush. |

There are still parts of Lower Town Harpers Ferry that I haven't seen. I got into a few more buildings today.

It is almost Memorial Day. Every year parts of my family get together to plant flowers on relatives graves before Memorial Day. Today was that day and I missed it. I got a few phone calls asking about relatives and where we usually plant things. That was nice. My aunt (her birthday is today) and I messaged back and forth a little bit. That was super nice. I miss my family and friends.
I'm back at the hostel I stayed at last week. My tent is set up in about the same spot. There is a nice view.

Thank you for being here and being part of my daily happy things. Stay safe!
