Opening

 August 2nd

Vacation sometimes means I forget the day of the week.  Today was Saturday, even though I kept thinking it was Friday.  Here are my happy Saturday things:

  • Instead of going to classes today I did some things around camp and then helped the current Baron and Baroness prepare for the Knowne World Baronial Fencing Champions event.  Baronial Fencing Champions compete, not just through sword play, but by answering questions about why they do what they do.  I tried to listen to that while keeping a second eye on the children of our Baron and Baroness.  The kids are getting to know me better, that is good.  I enjoy the Fencing tournaments because they tend to verbally spar as well as spar with their Fencing equipment.

  • The tournament lasted longer than I expected.  I got back in time to have a late lunch and get ready to go to archery.  Tonight, tomorrow, and Monday are the practices for perhaps earning the chance to participate in the Archery Champions Shoot.  Only archers who are chosen participate in that tournament.  I don't expect to be chosen, but I'm getting myself out there and trying.  I did have one of the elite archers tell me that even though I missed the target (a paper plate 30 yards away) I still had a good grouping.  That was nice hear.
  • After that was the procession into Opening Ceremonies.  All the royalty from around the world that are at Pennsic attend and sides are declared.  I did not stay for the ceremony, however, I just processed in with the Barony.

  • I was able to visit with other friends during the day and even went to the food court area for ice cream.

Thank you for being here and being part of my daily happy things. Stay safe!
