Rainbow

 March 13, 2025 - Thursday

It was another early morning for me.  This time I fell back to sleep after a little bit.  It takes a while to do breakfast & tear down.  By the time that was done and we drove to our last stopping point on the trail, it was 11:10.

Sunrise

Other than collecting water we didn't have any lengthy stops.  We got to Hawk Mountain Shelter around 13:50.  We thought about moving on after a break, but rain threatened.  We set the tent up and rode out the storm.  It didn't rain too hard here, but the thunder was close and loud.

There are some pretty gnarly root systems.
It is possible that the trail has moved some over the years.  Or this is the result of 100 years of use and erosion.

There is a waterfall down the hill.

Really, between the leaves and trees, a waterfall.

We didn't look for the shed and cemetery.

The sign was also pointing to where a school used to be.

Probably Hawk Mountain in the background.

This hole is so much bigger than the picture shows.  Probably three feet tall?  A person more agile than me could easily climb in there if it is deep inside.

Collecting water by the trail

Bel at the shelter, getting ready to set up camp.  They tolerate me taking their picture.

This nest is right near the picnic table at the shelter.

We spent some time hanging around the shelter.  Eventually, I decided to try hiking up Hawk Mountain.  Bel wasn't interested.  I didn't make it to the top because I told Bel I'd be back or be in touch and there wasn't any cell service.  I did get as far as the parking lot near the top of the mountain.  It was a short hike without a backpack!

Later, right after we had dinner, it started to thunder and rain again.  This time with big blueberry sized hail!  We stayed in the shelter until it was mostly over.  I'm glad we did because there was a rainbow!

Hail

I love finding images in tree shapes and other things.  I see a dancer in the tree I've tried to center in the picture.

Rainbow!!

Thank you for being here and being part of my daily happy things. Stay safe!
