LOPs-Harpers Ferry WV

May 14th

While hiking a small section of the AT in Harper's Ferry and contemplating that I left my trekking poles and head lamp in the car, I slipped and fell.  I'm fine.  I was also contemplating my hunger and thirst levels.

I'm tired and I'm going to tell you about my day with the many pictures.  Harpers Ferry National Park is an historical park mostly concerning the Civil War and the time leading up to it.  The following pictures include some of the exhibits (a lot about John Brown), some of the Appalachian Trail and surrounding area, and some of the flooding currently happening in the area.  There was an adorable encounter with a deer.  I got some okay shots of some birds too.

My apologies if there are duplicates.  I've been having a hard time uploading so many pictures.

The waters are high everywhere.

Canada Geese & goslings.

I don't remember the year, but this is the foundation of one of the buildings that got washed away during a flood.

The building where John Brown was captured.

Stairs look to be carved out of the stone.
These are part of the Appalachian Trail.

Deer.
I love this picture.

Strawberry on a lawn!

Flood lines.
There is a similar picture to this towards the beginning.  The water is much higher than the 4-5 hours earlier of the other and there is a tree missing from this picture.

I was able to walk up those stairs without going through water earlier in the day.

I stood and spoke with a woman for quite some time and she took this picture of me.  We talked about the flooding, weather, protests, the AT, the area.  It was a nice conversation.

Kayaking?!!
I hope they were able to get out.

The foot bridge over the Potomac River.  This is the AT path as well.
This bridge was to be closed at 7:30PM due to the high waters expected.

I think that gray blob is someone's tent.

The flood level is almost at 17 feet.

Thank you for being here and being part of my daily happy things. Stay safe!
