Lots of Photos-NJ

 May 10th

New Jersey - So much water.

Breakfast this morning was a trip to Dunkin Donuts.  I didn't want much, but had to have something and an egg and cheese wrap fit that description.  Whenever I thought about sitting down for a big breakfast my stomach said no.  What surprised me is that they had Bavarian cream donuts.  That has been a favorite of mine for quite a while but I never seem to find them in New Hampshire.  It was a bonus on top of my wrap.

For a lot of little reasons I got to the trailhead later than I thought I would.  After doing some research on the trails in the area I decided to slack pack north for about three hours and then return.  My goals changed soon after I left.  I headed up the trail and when it split, I took a right when I should have taken a left.  I figured it out my mistake within a few hundred feet but I decided to continue down Dunnfield Creek Trail instead of the Appalachian Trail.  The trails joined again in a few miles and I would make my hike a loop instead of out and back on the AT.  Four hours later I found where the two trails meet.  Dunnfield Creek Trail was beautiful, hard, and had water crossings.  The AT in this section was mostly like an old road.  There were some sections that were a little more challenging, but it was mostly an old road.  Both of the trails seem to be about 4.1 miles depending on where I looked.  Dunnfield Creek took twice as long to hike than the AT.

The pictures below start at the trailhead, follow Dunnfield Creek until I got to Sunfish Pond.  At that point I headed south on the AT to get back to my car.  But I actually walked by the Dunnfield Creek Parking Area and went to the Kittatinny Visitor Center Parking before returning to my car.  The water in the Delaware River looks very high.

I'm loving the zoom on my new phone!

All those rocks are the trail.

Frog or toad.

A white blaze!  At this point I'm heading south on the AT back toward my car.

This is the first bridge I went over.  When I came back over I decided to get a picture of the tree that took out parts of the bridge.

On the way to the other parking lot.

The stairs go right into the river.

Before going into the diner.

Leaving the diner.

Dinner!!

After a day of hiking I decided a restaurant would be a good idea.  I chose a diner because the prices are low and usually the food is good.  I wanted an omelet and so had breakfast for dinner.  This time my stomach said yes.

Started listening to: Hey, Ranger! By Jim Burnett.

Thank you for being here and being part of my daily happy things. Stay safe!
